"Let's Just Be Friends"

We should be used to school by now. After all, we've been in school since we were in kindergarten (although playing was/is so much more fun than exams). Everyone at MDIS should more or less have already gone through about:

2-3 years of Preschool/Kindergarten,
6 years of Elementary/Primary School,
4-5 years of High school/Secondary school,
1-2 years of tertiary education

So, why oh why, do we still complain about school? Seriously, what is the matter with us (or the school)? It's like a relationship, it's either about 'us'... or it's about 'them'.

Well if it's about us, then there's nothing more to say other than "It's not you, it's me."

But if it's about school, how we wish we can say "Let's just be friends."

That would make things so much easier. But if things came this easy, where's the fun in all that?

So, good people of MDIS, tell us the reasons why you just wanna "be friends" with school. Be honest now, because if you ain't honest, how can we help you work it out? Remember, it's a two-way relationship.

So, start your complaining/bitching/sharing!

Arrgh! What I hate about school is the lack of fun/good/enjoyable social activities. And even if the school had any, a only a few people knew about it.

I just need more fun!

I agree with aprilzara. It's soooooooooooooooo boing without activities outside of the curriculum. Even if there are activites, they are so boring and I don't look forward to them.
What's the point of having a 2 days 1 night adventure camp or an archery thingy for a day? There's no bonding between students.
Honestly, besides my classmates and course coordinator, I hardly know ANYONE ELSE in the school!!!

There are 4 counters at the Student Services, but most of the time, I only see one person there. What's the point of having a queue system then?

The canteen food sucks.

My wish for MDIS is to become less bureaucratic. It's so difficult to get to the management. The message you wanted to relay never really gets to the top! I can't stand the "must follow" procedures mantra being practiced to the point of impracticality...the fear of stepping out of the established rules sometimes results in ineffectiveness and unresolved issues.

the photocopy charges are too high! why do people in other varsities get only a black & white print @ $0.03? why is there a need to set it at $0.06? even for colour prints, it's seriously way off! isn't it a little too much for STUDENTS?

I can print twice the number of what i'm getting in school if i'd gone outside to print! Oh, for crying out loud, isn't the school a place where cheaper stationery, cheaper reference texts and cheaper food abound?

what is MDIS management doing? Are they really thinking not-for-profit? With so much ads ard, are they still focusing on drawing PROFITS from potential students?! Where's their Focus US, current students! I can't wait to see a change By the students ,for US students.

Yeah everything here is so true. Sometimes they're not even bothered with regards to the installments being paid and then they expect us to pay late charges? And if the management doesn't send out letters notifying students about their fee being due how do they expect them to know when to pay? So its the job of 11,000 students to chase them to find out when to pay? Its a rather crazy policy and its very unfair penalizing someone for something which isn't their mistake. Regarding student services, Yes why is there ALWAYS only one counter open? We pay through our nose to study at MDIS... 4-5k per sem is no joke! Indeed this new student services center is better than the previous one but yet there are similar faults again. This one is bigger so more people can wait longer? And why do the stuff there take so long to respond? If theres tooo much work to be done there then hire more people. 250k can be spent to build a new Tourism School so cant 1.5k a month be spent on a few more staff for Student services to finally make it better ?

i couldnt agree more... can't they juz provide more helpers? less classes to handle by one coordinator would means, a HAPPIER and Focused and aand and a STRONGER bond between a coordinator with their students.. tsk tsk tsk.. they took ageeeess to reply to your enquiries.. and in the end, they are the ones who fed up on answering your needs.. phew... sometimes, can't blame them.. too stressed eh? if you do, suggests your management to recruit more colleagues.. Thousand hands are FAR more better than two ritey? *somehow... i think i bitched too much*:p

Dear student, thank you for your feedback on the level of social activities at MDIS. As an education institute, our foremost concern would be to give students a rewarding education experience. We also aim to prepare you for the world of work by organizing job fairs and various on-campus talks that will help you prepare yourself for life after MDIS. Social activities have been organized to engage student sporadically and this has taken the form of movie outings and trips overseas. MDIS will alert students of these activities through channels such as campus posters (you will be able to see these at strategic locations within MDIS: lift lobby, canteens), the Student Council, and email notifications. Alternatively, for a list of current activities offered by MDIS, you may log on to http://www.mdis.edu.sg for up-to-date information.

Dear Student, MDIS is an institute offering pre-University and higher-level learning to students. Extra-Curricular activities do not form part of the curriculum, although our Student Care Department and Student Council body organizes various activities to celebrate national events in Singapore, on campus. There was a fun fair, Valentine’s Day bash and an upcoming Deeparaya celebration, which MDIS respects and celebrates due to the diverse nationalities we have on-campus.

Presently, there are 2 full-time Customer Service staff at Student Services. The extra seats at the counter are for Student Coordinators to sit and address queries of students who approach Student Sevrices during office hours. We do not have 4 Customer Service staff at Student Services.

Your comments on our canteen food will be feedbacked to the appropriate dept handling the outsourcing of canteen vendors. It would have helped if you provided the specific reasons behind your dislike and the particular stall/s concerned.

Dear Student, MDIS is an institute of learning and like all professional organizations, we follow a set of rules to govern student matters. In your student handbook, details of your student coordinator and the Student Services Managers are listed for your reference of contact. Approaching these personnel will ensure your query gets heard and for it to reach top management .

Dear Student, the photocopy service provided at MDIS is charged at a going rate advertised by our vendors.

Dear Student, the Student Services is expanding to cater to our increasing student population. Specific coordinators will handle programs and afford more time to address to individual queries.
